I have a degree in accounting and law and worked in the corporate world for almost 30 years. I started my corporate working life as a cost accountant in a large South African bank and ended it as a contracts manager in a gas company. I wanted to write and publish and started Guide Book Publications in 1997. Since then I have written over 30 books and published several more. My main focus has been sport in South Africa, notably road running and swimming.
I was a devoted runner until a motor car accident cut short a reasonably promising career. I decided to pour my passion for sport into writing. Over the last 20 years I believe I made a positive contribution to running in South Africa and in 2006 was inducted into the Runner’s World Hall of Fame.
I have run over 100 marathons in my life and hold five Comrades Marathon medals. I like to swim and have nine Midmar Mile medals. In the year I turned 50 I ran a marathon on every continent in celebration. Outside of publishing and sport I am a trained hospice counsellor for terminal patients and was an office bearer at Hospice-in-the-West in Krugersdorp. I have been married for over 30 years, live in Johannesburg and have two daughters one living in London and one in Johannesburg.
